As men, we frequently feel as though the world of fashion only offers us two options: either we should dress in the most conventional, neutral-colored outfits, or we should don the extravagant runway looks that nobody with any sense would ever wear in everyday life. It is understandable why the majority of guys go for choice 1, and sadly, many of them never develop a sense of style as a result. If you are one of them and you would like to learn how to elevate your looks, you came to the right place. By making small upgrades, you can make your simple outfits for any occasion look way better and more sophisticated.
Step 1: Always keep your clothes clean and ironed
You’d think this would be common sense, yet if you just walk down the street, you’ll see how many modern men disregard this straightforward rule. No matter how cheap or basic your outfit is, if it is maintained clean and carefully ironed, you’ve already made progress toward the goal. If you can’t afford to get your clothes professionally cleaned, at least invest in detergent and buy a few different kinds for various types of textiles or colors, such as a gentle detergent for delicate fibers or one made specifically for white clothing. This will not only prolong the lifespan of your garments, but also make you look better.
Step 2: Invest in basics
As paradoxical as it may seem, in order to elevate a basic outfit, you need to invest in basic clothing. Even when we have a full closet, we often complain that we have nothing to wear since all of our clothes are of low quality, see-through, or are just worn out and outdated. Invest in a few high-quality, basic items like a coat, some black and white t-shirts, a pair of trousers and a button-up. We advise purchasing a woolen cable knit sweater, such as theese Irish sweaters https://www.tarairishclothing.com/ . The Aran sweaters are currently so fashionable, as soon as possible for the upcoming cold season. By pairing a qualitative knitted Irish sweater with a pair of good denim jeans and a coat, you already have a wonderful outfit for the cold season.
Step 3: Don’t ignore the accessories
The devil is in the details, and the best way to elevate a basic outfit is by incorporating these details in your looks. Similar to the basics, the accessories are something you should invest in: get yourself a wristwatch, a basic leather bag and wallet, a belt, and maybe some jewelry, if it fits your boat. If you decide to wear a classic white t-shirt and black trousers combination, it will look 10 times better if you pair it with a leather backpack and your wristwatch. What makes them so great is that, when properly chosen, accessories last considerably longer than clothing, allowing you to wear your favorite watch or belt for many years to come at any occasion, whether formal or casual.…Read more
The devil might be in the details, but our fine-looking trio today doesn’t seem to have any issues in the nuance department. In fact, they’re all demonstrating a mastery of the small stuff by making unexpected or subtle style statements. Feel free to nick an idea or three from our tip-tastic muses; we assure you, we’re doing the same.
Try a bold beaded necklace for an ethnic touch
We spotted our next detail-driven tip on former GOTM, Ally Hilfiger, when she attended the launch party for Envirolution at Marquee in New York. She layered another level of interest on her outfit by adding two statement-making, intricate, beaded necklaces. Her use of jewelry is an excellent example of how to subtly incorporate the season’s tribal trend into your wardrobe. We took the liberty of finding a few choice pieces for your perusal, like the Changing Tides Tassel Necklace ($48) from Free People (we really like the turquoise and red versions). Stella McCartney’s simple and sophisticated Beaded Necklace ($285) along with some Gucci sunglasses is another chic way to wear the look.
A canvas bag is a cool unfussy fashion statement
There’s much to like about Alexa Chung’s highly idiosyncratic, completely steadfast, unabashedly low-maintenance look. Like how she tends to wear flats to dressy events, her earthy beauty routine that seems to consist of soap and water, and now, Chung’s anti-it bag. Seen here at the Belvedere Jagger Dagger party in London, Chung chose a cotton tote celebrating the Black Lips latest album over designer offerings. We dare you to pick canvas over couture too! We’ll even get you started: the Reuse Me Butterfly Tote ($12) from Urban Outfitters and the All We Need Is Love Tote ($12) by Heritage 1981 are both good options. We also like the slightly more upscale Virginia Johnson Beach Tote ($185).
Experiment with this season’s new cropped pant
As we mentioned in the Who What Wear TV episode, Perfect Pants for Spring, one of our favorite looks in the pantalones department is the slightly baggy/sort of cropped style. On that note, we were quite delighted to see Diane Kruger modeling an ideal pair at a Rogan for Target event last week. Kruger’s styling is spot-on: we love the how her tough Dior heels and sparkly, cropped jacket play against the boyish trousers. Try Alexander Wang’s Oversized Cropped Pants ($280), Vanessa Bruno’s Athe High Waist Pant ($347), or the Cropped Trouser ($310) by 3.1 Phillip Lim.
